The scope and size is unclear, but a partner in the New York development group BethWorks Now
said Friday his group is ''fully committed'' to establishing the National Museum of
Industrial History at the former Bethlehem Steel site.
''We are still in the very early stages of working with planners, contractors and
architects,'' Michael Perrucci said in a written statement.
''We are confident that a satisfactory museum will emerge that will tell the story of
building, transporting and defending America. The museum has an important role in our
overall plans, and we are fully supportive of the museum.''
BethWorks Now and Las Vegas Sands Inc. would develop the 124-acre former Steel land into a
project that would include a slots parlor and conference center at Steel's old ore yard east
of the Minsi Trails Bridge.
The project also calls for an arts park, open-air concert arena, retail stores, restaurants
and a large outdoor market.
Under a 1997 Bethlehem Steel plan, a $200 million National Museum of Industrial History was
the centerpiece of a $450 million project to redevelop the Steel land into an entertainment
and shopping district.
